The Power of Pixie Dust

We’ve all heard the story of Peter Pan. The story filled our dreams with fairies, mermaids, and pirates. It allowed our imagination to soar beyond great lengths. Have you ever dreamed of going to Neverland? I know I have. Just sprinkling myself with a little bit of pixie dust and off I go. Do you remember the way?

Second star to the right and straight on ’til morning

Neverland is the place where no one EVER grows up. It’s a magical place where dreams come true. A place to partake in epic sword fights with pirates. A place with seas filled of beautiful mermaids. A place we all want to visit, maybe even live in; however, Neverland is a place for those like Peter. Those who are okay never having responsibilities or a purpose in life.

Neverland

Growing up on Earth comes with inevitably losing your childhood innocence. Many people are frightened by this idea, but it is so much more than just taking on responsibilities and leaving your parents. It’s about finding yourself through every problem and every heartbreak.

Peter tells us “It is not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do that is the secret of happiness.” Growing up is what we do. If we all could listen to Peter and start liking what we do and embracing what we can’t control, the world would be happier as a whole.

If you’re going to college, pour your heart and soul into your schooling. Be the BEST you can be. Whatever you end up doing, you’ll be helping others and, personally, I think that’s better than staying a kid forever.

I, myself, was afraid to grow up at one point. When I was a senior in high school, I was scared to death about leaving home and my parents and my best friends. I didn’t know how to live on my own or how to function with as much independence as college allows me. I was afraid of messing up or that I wouldn’t like it. I knew I was going to miss everyone who raised me and everyone I grew up with.

It took me a little while to realize why I was here. Why God had put me on this campus. I am majoring in kinesiology and psychology. My plan for the future is to be a strength and conditioning coach. I love lifting and I want to help other athletes get stronger, but being here at Calvin has also taught me that it is so much more than that. It’s about helping others achieve their dreams and reach their goals. It’s about inspiring and motivating.
